Molas
The Molas are a type of weaving made by the indigenous women of the community Tula Cuna, a community which lives in the northern frontier region between Panama and Colombia.
This particular weave is in fact many layers of weave. The weave and the patterns of the weave represent a number of ideas and designs such as anthropomorphic, zoomorphes or geometric designs that represent labyrinths.
It is applied to a number of items and the most skilful dress designers and weavers are able to apply them to other hand crafted works such as cushions, unique pieces to decorate a table or incorporated into an existing piece of clothing. Often a piece of weave is simply displayed on the wall. |
