COLOMBIANOZ is proud to be able to bring to you a range of quality products that are the most representative of Colombian art.
This craftwork is an essential part of the culture of not only the indigenous communities, but of afro-Colombians, mixed race country folk and city dwellers of our country.
Some of the artwork represent the know-how of the artists that date from a pre-Colombian age: the last descendents of people of Tules-Cunas continue to weave their molas, the indigenous women of the villages Wayuus, Arahuacas and Kankuamas weave their” mochilas” or traditional bags, the people of Zenu produce accessories using their surprising vegetable fibre caña flecha, the people of the village La Chamba produce the beautiful black ceramic using the same technique of their ancestors, the women of San Jacinto weave their hammocks in the same vertical weaving loom that has been used since the Spanish conquered South America.
However, Colombianoz also has many new works of art : the work of the Tagua or the “vegetable Ivory” that was already well known at the start of the 20th century but which is now being used to make jewellery such as necklaces and bracelets.
The objective of Colombianoz is to promote the creative expressions and rich culture embodied in these unique items of hand craft of our craftsmen and to ensure that the artists also benefit from the fair trade practices that we follow.
We also wish to tell the story of these men and even more so, the women who live simple lives but who work with love and courage to make these items and to show the true face of Colombia, that has not been stigmatised by violence.

Fair trade

We work mainly with established and recognised foundations, cooperatives and associations that all undertake projects that help the “fragile” population of Columbia: single mothers, indigenous populations that have suffered violence, homeless, persons that need to be re-integrated back into their society. Above all, the humble female workers who work hard but are happy to work with their weaving loom and lovingly produce their craft.

The prices for the items have been established by the artists, and represent a fair and equitable payment for the high level of quality and skill to produce their work.

Unlike regular commercial practices, we pay the craftsman 50% of the order when the order is placed.

For all the items we ensure that the correct conditions for their production are respected; children and other vulnerable persons have not been and will not be exploited. Finally throughout the entire process, the local culture and environment are always protected.

Exported directly from the craftsmen, the many levels of intermediaries usually found for the sale of such items are removed with the craftsmen themselves benefiting directly from this and, above all, favours the creation of long lasting relations with the craftsman.

Colombianoz was very happy to be present at the European Fair Trade Fair, in Lyon, last october.

The associations, cooperatives, small companies and artists all work towards building and promoting a quality craft industry and social projects for sustaining communities. The rules of fair trade are applied by Colombianoz and underpin all their dealings with their Colombian partners.

OUR PARTNERS

TEJE TEJE : a non-profit making organisation that work on community projects to support the indigenous people of the Sierra Nevada region of Santa Marta in the north of the country.

CHILAMO bags : a small company whose social project focuses on the handcraft of the women of a small village of Punta Canoas, which is on the coast in the north of the country.

SUSU WAYUU FOUNDATION : a foundation to help the ethnic tribe Wayuu of the region of Guarjira in the north of the country, which is struggling for recognition, and to aid it in its cultural recovery.

COOPARTNERSANOS : a cooperative of artists created in Cartegena to promote and develop the craft industry of the region and the subsequent commercialisation of the industry. They work in collaboration with the Association of Women of San Jacinto, for the making of traditional hammocks.

LA LIBELULA : an organisation for the promotion of hand crafted leather accessories created by single mothers.

PROMOTORA DE COMMERCIO SOCIAL : a non-profit making organisation that promotes the creation and development of small artists and subsequent commercialisation of the crafts.

COOPORACION INCUBADORA DE URABA : A non-governmental, non-profit making organisation whose priority is to develop programs for the craft industry of Tule-cuna and the promotion of its indigenous culture.

CITRINO Collares : a small company that works in small groups or “single cells” for the development, promotion and commercialisation of the craft industry to provide a trade for vulnerable people such as the woman of a family, persons with a handicap and those that need to be integrated back into society.

TRIETNIA : this company has an aim to produce and commercialise the ethnic products that express the culture of the tribe Zenu of the indigenous reservation of San Andres of Sotavento based between the regions of Cordoba and Sucre.

ANDINES : For 20 years the Cooperative Andines has been working to put in place an infrastructure for commerce, with practices that are the most equitable.
